Description

About the workbook

In today’s image-obsessed world, it is increasingly challenging for teenagers, especially girls, to develop a healthy body image. The Body Image Workbook for Teens offers a valuable resource to address these concerns. This workbook provides a range of activities and exercises designed to help teenage girls conquer self-doubt, set healthy boundaries, and ultimately accept and respect their bodies. By engaging with the workbook, girls can explore their perceptions of beauty, challenge societal ideals, and develop a more positive relationship with their bodies. Through practical strategies and thought-provoking exercises, this workbook empowers teenagers to navigate the pressures of society and develop a healthy and realistic self image. It serves as a guide to promote self-acceptance, boost self-esteem, and foster overall well-being in the face of an image-centric culture.

I translated this book in 2015 for Persian-speaking teenagers in Iran. I believe that due to various social and political reasons, these teenagers are unable to access high quality psychological services.

What is Body Image?

It refers to a person’s perception and feelings about their own physical appearance. It encompasses how individuals view their body size, shape, and overall attractiveness. This perception is influenced by various factors, including societal standards of beauty, media portrayals, cultural ideals, and personal experiences. A positive perception means accepting and appreciating one’s body as it is, while a negative perception involves dissatisfaction, self-criticism, and unrealistic expectations. This perception can significantly impact a person’s self-esteem, mental health, and overall well-being. It is important to promote body positivity and encourage individuals to develop a healthy and realistic perception of their bodies.
